At 6:40am on July 6, 2005, Beijing Time, the Shijian-7 scientific experimental satellite was successfully launched into a predetermined sun synchronous orbit (SSO) aboard a LM-2D launch vehicle launched from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center.
The launch mission was conducted at the manned space flight complex at JSLC, and is the first SSO mission at JSLC. With an in-orbit life span of 3 years, SJ-7 is designed to monitor the space environment and perform a range of different space science experiments.
This marks the 85th flight of the Long March series of launch vehicles, and the 43th consecutive successful launch since October 1996.
